Dr. Jonathan Makuwira

Jonathan is currently a Lecturer in International Development at the School of Global Studies, School of Social Science & Planning, RMIT University, Melbourne Australia. He has just completed research project on urban poverty and non-governmental development organisations’ (NGDOs’) intervention mechanisms in Malawi, which was funded by RMIT Emerging Researchers Grant. Jonathan has been awarded several research and travel grants, as well as awards such as the 2007 Carrick Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, 2006 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and 2006 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence – Indigenous Teacher of the Year among others. His research interests are related to aid effectiveness, poverty alleviation/eradication in developing countries, post-conflict development and peace building, community development and capacity building, comparative Indigenous studies, and peace and development education in fragile states/democracies; project planning, design, monitoring and evaluation.
