2012 dawns and we are excited about our ongoing and enduring relationship with CSOs in Fiji. We are comitted to a two year program as well and being involved in many other activities. Our very best news is that Mick is out of hospital and somewhat back to work – we are so grateful to his persistence and his comittment to working with us.
Elsewhere Rebecca is probably working in the Philippines in April and Sri Lanka soon after. Happy new year to all.

Training in Canberra

Currently in Canberra, Rebecca is delivering training in Do No Harm for 30 AusAID people. Do No Harm is a fundamental approach to delivering aid in stricken communities, and with a great presentation team including Steve Archibald, an enjoyable workshop is being had by all involved.

Great work, and good deeds, are happening in Canberra!

Fiji Happenings!

Rebecca, having recently returned from Suva – Fiji, is working with a fantastic team to stock take the capacity building potential of Fiji’s CSO’s! the database entry team is currently uploading a great collection of information on a range of categories and the work is of the highest standard!

Well done to everyone, and with the final report not far from completion, this project has been an absolute joy for all involved.

Also in Fiji, this time in the North, and the PCP North office along with Evolveris and Peaceworks has been very busy implementing the first stages of the Leading Transition project. For such a big project, the team is small but very dedicated, and we all are excited for the great work that will come from this exciting venture!

Sudden and untimely death of Sabine Altmann

Our dear colleague and friend Sabine Altmann was killed in a road traffic accident on Monday 31st October. Sabine worked with Peaceworks in PNG where she managed health and commuity development programs in Morobe Province. We shall sorely miss her courage, her determination and her passion. We loved her deeply.

It is with great sadness that we advise that Dr Mick (RATU MIKA) suffered a stroke 10 days ago. Mick is one of the brains trust behind Peaceworks and we love him and are supporting him and his family through his illness.

Summer Peacebuilding Institute

Well, when Koila and I walk in to the room, we are always excited to see who will turn up and what we will co-create. This year we had 14 amazing practitioners from all points west, north and east. We combined classes with the gender peace and security mob and much peacebuilding laughter and tears were had!!!!

As always I am so grateful to the wonderful practitioners who are willing to come and share their ideas and peacebuilding innovation.

I am now in London visiting family and colleagues and altogether damp.

Celebrating Civil Society Organisations in Fiji

Rebecca just got back from two weeks of working intensively with 12 civil society organisations in Fiji, who are providing essential services on the fields of democratisation, health, environmental education, women’s issues, reef management and community development. WHAT A PRIVILEGE IT WAS TO WORK WITH THEM.

Mick is busy developing the templates for our LEADING TRANSITIONS online leadership and peacebuilding course – we are getting closer to completion every day.

Irene is having a well earned break in sunny Townsville.

Rebecca sets off for the Summer Peacebuilding Institute on the 10th of June where she will be teaching the course on changing social narratives to build peace…….

Strategic Dialogue workshop held in SUVA

Rebecca and Mick have just returned from Fiji where they were co-facilitating a workshop for 18 CSOs in Fiji. The workshop enabled participants to explore in a safe space some of key issues and challenges facing civil society. Special focus was given the first day to developing a safe space and building confidence through concentrating on deepening the understanding of each organisation’s mandate, strategic focus areas and key stakeholders. This discussion and sharing of perspectives in small groups allowed points of intersection and synergies to emerge. Strategic priorities were identified and an action plan developed.
All participants and facilitators were extremely happy with the process and outcomes.
